SL Benfica “at full throttle” against Famalicão

Benfica showed an extremely pressing attitude in their Defensive Goal Kicks, playing with the knowledge that Famalicão especially likes to build up from the back to dismantle opponents. It was an interesting duel between an extremely aggressive Benfica in the approach and a Famalicão looking for spaces to dismantle Benfica’s defensive structure.

Despite the clear difference in individual quality, Famalicão, having a lot of difficulties in linking his game as he would like, had the ability, before the 1-0, to link one time or another with great quality, arriving to the last third in a very interesting way.

The difficulties that Benfica raised to Famalicão on the outside, in other words, in the control of Famalicense’s corridors and already in Medium/Medium-Low Block. João Pedro Sousa replaced the full-backs at half-time, but continued with many difficulties in controlling the dynamics of the side-corridor in Benfica’s offensive process. Several solutions and ideas can be raised: including a (defensive) line of 5 could be the solution… defending in 5x2x3 (from the 3x4x3 tactical system) could be more pressing and could be better to control the side-corridor, the depth and the space-goal.
